This site is mostly my personal collection of on-line references. Which has been publicly posted to the Internet, because it might benefit others. As such, all materials in this site are presented "AS IS". So use anything from this site completely at your own risk. Further, any information provided in support of this Website is offered under these same terms. (For an example of this, see the End-User Computer Support by E-mail page.)
By default, this site does not use cookies, and I am not doing anything that would try to collect any personal information about site visitors. However, if you click on an Affiliate Link, then the resulting Webpage is their site, and they may use cookies, etc.. Also, the Web-server at my hosting provider does log general visitor information, such as the (version of) Web-browser that was used, etc.. This "statistical information" is not posted publicly, and requires an authorized log-in to view it.
I recommend things base exclusively upon what I do or do not think about a product or service. And that opinion is usually based on the experience of what I personally use or have tried out. So, if someone wants to pay me a commission for a recommendation I would be making anyway, then I'll certainly accept their money. But that is the only manner in which affiliate links are included in this Website.
I do admit to being totally mercenary in my "Quest for Understanding". That I really don't care if that understanding is documented by my own writing, or the writing of others. So when I find something presented "better than I could put it myself", I do shamelessly, and sometimes very extensively, quote that source-- with full credit, and a link back to the original document. (Assuming the original page still exists on the Web, to link back to it.) While any Webpage where the desired content makes up most of the page, is when this site links directly to an external Webpage.
In some cases I will also add a link within a quote, to provide an explanation for a term, reference or concept included in the quoted text. When I do so, the following title (attribute) is added to the link: "A supporting link added to this quote". That for most current Web-browsers, this title will appear on-screen after the cursor hovers over the link for a second or two.
In all cases, any content this site presents from another source, remains the property of the original source. Where I can claim only the annotations, or any other work that I may have added to such content. Also, some icons used to link to external Web sites are the property of their respective owners. Otherwise the design of this site, along with any and all original content-- including the site graphics-- are Copyright © 2000-2005 Allen Smith. This especially applies to the white with light blue top "navigation card", that I use on the upper level pages of this Website. As I've invested tooooo much time into development and multi-browser testing, to have someone else just take that design and coding on me.
